Hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) is a non-ionic, water-soluble cellulose derivative produced by introduction of ethylene oxide groups to the hydroxyl groups of the cellulose backbone.

In latex paint formulations, Hydroxyethyl cellulose offers ease of solution, low-foaming, thickening efficiency, and improved color development
and stabilization. Its non-ionic character contributes stabilization over a wide PH range and permits broad formulating latitude.
Hydroxyethyl cellulose can be used in all typers of latex paints from low to high PVC. It suitable for all types of interior and exterior paints.
